Assemblyman Mike Durso Visits CP Nassau

As part of our ongoing Legislative efforts, Assistant Executive Director Peter Dolan has reached out to Assemblyman Mike Durso throughout the year and visited with him in his local office in Massapequa Park.  Peter invited the Assemblyman to visit CP Nassau and on November 30, we were happy to welcome him here to our headquarters building.

The visit started with a group of staff members representing various departments gathering to talk with the Assemblyman about important issues affecting us and the DD/ID community at large.  He listened intently and was aware of many of the issues and open to hearing about all the concerns our staff had.

A tour though our building including a visit with many students and faculty members in our school, The Children’s Learning Center hosted by Principal, Kevin Loughlin was a great opportunity to see our educational program in action.  Then, in the Adult Day Services area, the Assemblyman got to meet more program participants and see staff in action.  The visit ended with members of the participants self-advocacy group meeting with the Assemblyman in the main auditorium for a forum about needs and concerns.  It was a lively discussion, and all felt optimistic about getting some assistance from Assemblyman Durso in the future to bring about positive change and solutions to troubling issues we face.

All at CP Nassau are grateful to Assemblyman Mike Durso for taking the time to visit and for his sincere interest and concern.
