MWI Volunteers Deliver Comfort in the Way of Blankets and Dolls

Meadowbrook Women’s Initiative (MWI) is a unique organization, dedicated to promoting lifetime learning, serving the community and raising funds for worthwhile local causes. MWI is further committed to making a difference in the lives of others. Member Marcia Steele recently reached out to CP Nassau’s Community Outreach Manager, Pat Quinn with an offer to get more involved and help CP Nassau.

The mission of MWI is philanthropy, giving back to the community, sometimes learning new ways to look at old things, and making friends along the way. Thanks to the crocheting ladies group, MWI donated about a dozen of the most beautiful blankets! They are already in use by residents at our various CP Nassau homes. Marcia organizes this group along with Phyllis Biernick,  Mildred Becker and Sandy Minkoff.

“Ouch Babies” are gingerbread shaped dolls made of muslin. They are also called Surgi-Dolls and are used in hospitals as a source of comfort to children, and as a means of identifying sites of pain or medical procedures. The faces are left blank, allowing the children to personalize and decorate their doll. The group, led by Carol Kraus and Emily Schrieber, made and donated about 20 of these dolls that will be used in our Medical program. Some small toiletries and cosmetic cases were donated too.
