State Senator Alexis Weik Visits CP Nassau

CP Nassau was happy to welcome State Senator Alexis Weik from the Third Senate District in the Sayville area for a visit on October 25. Some of our staff members live in Senator Weik’s district and had met with her previously to talk about the issues we face here at CP Nassau. A visit to our center in the future was discussed.
The visit started with the Senator meeting with members of our management team here at CP Nassau for a meaningful discussion about the issues. Hosted by Executive Director Karen Geller-Hittleman and Assistant Executive Director, Peter Dolan, the Senator then traveled to visit students and faculty in the Children’s Learning Center. She then met with participants and staff from the Adult Day Services program in the Auditorium.
Many members of the self-advocacy group were on hand and expressed their thoughts about many of the challenges we face including the need for good staff and better salaries so that they make a fair wage for the great work they do. Some staff members were able to give their perspective on things at the session too. The Senator was impressed by what was shared and thanked everyone for all they are doing to work for positive change. She told the participants to keep it up and promised that she understood the needs and would work hard to help us achieve the things we hope to accomplish on behalf of all at CP Nassau and beyond.
