CP Nassau Shows Support for Bill to Provide Changing Tables for Adults with Disabilities

Blog, Legislative Issues

Hempstead Town Supervisor, Don Clavin along with Town Councilwoman Missy Miller have proposed a requirement for public buildings to include adult changing stations.  The proposed change to Town Code would require specific public buildings to include an adult changing station in their public restroom facilities.

Too often parents, guardians or support workers are faced with the unpleasant dilemma of laying the person they are assisting on a restroom floor or leaving them in soiled garments.

At a press conference on Friday, November 3rd, staff and program participants from CP Nassau joined fellow advocates from the Intellectual and Developmental Disability (I/DD) Community, stressing the importance of this bill.  Supervisor Clavin commented that most people do not even give this need any thought but for the families, workers and individuals affected, it is of great concern and importance.
